Valencia Family Holiday

So in this article, we’ll talk about what the can’t-miss activities for kids are. And we’ll also look into some important things to keep in mind before planning your trip.

And don’t forget to check out these resources while you’re planning your trip:

Top 5 Things To Do With Kids in Valencia

This is not a complete list of things to do with children in Valencia. But it is a great start for travelers.

Because naturally, the city has tons of cultural events, after-school activities, and other great resources for people living in Valencia.

But if you’re traveling – then you want to see what kind of kid-friendly activities Valencia has. So these are the top 5 things to do with kids. I think just about any family will enjoy these — but remember to customize and adapt your trip based on your personal preferences.

Bioparc

The Bioparc is a huge zoo near the Parc de Capçalera. This is a great place for kids to walk around, see exotic animals, and get up close and personal.

Thanks to Valencia’s climate, they’re able to host a range of wildlife. Exciting animals like rhinos, giraffes, and hippos are able to live comfortably in the park. And since the foundation does a good job at its conservation efforts — I can ethically encourage travelers to visit them.

It’ll take around 2–3 hours to visit. I came here with my husband’s cousins (who have a 6 & 7 year old) and it took us around 3 hours, stopping for a light snack in the middle. If you plan on seeing any of the scheduled events, make sure to check out their website first to plan the timing.

Ciutat de les Arts

The City of Arts and Sciences is now an emblematic staple in Valencia. If you’re coming to Valencia with kids, this is a must-see.

Well, it’s a must-see for any traveler, honestly.

But kids will especially enjoy going inside the different attractions. You’ll get to see:

  • Europe’s largest aquarium
  • An interactive science museum
  • A 3D cinema

And there’s also an opera house, but maybe you can save that for your date night!

Here, I would suggest looking into the type of tourism your kids will enjoy. Most kids love aquariums — and the air-conditioned experience is great if you’re coming in the summer months.

But the science museum can be a hit or miss. It is very large. And there are a lot of interactive experiments and exhibits for your kids to play with.

So if they’re interested in science, they’ll have the time of their life. But if not … then it’s going to take a while to get through it all.

Even if you don’t visit the inside — you have to talk a walk around the exterior. It’s one of the most unique pieces of architecture in Valencia (and the world, honestly). So definitely worth the visit.

Gulliver

Gulliver Park is a unique playground where children can climb and slide on a giant figure of Gulliver from “Gulliver’s Travels.”

In case you’re not a fan of 18th-century literature — here’s a quick summary. In Jonathon Swift’s satirical book, a captain travels to several far-away islands. One of them is Lilliput. Here, the captain is captured and tied down by the locals — who are a race of people that are only 6 inches (15cm) tall.

So in this enormous playground, your kids are the Lilliputians who get to jump around and climb up the tied-down captain.

It’s a super unique park that your kids will have a great time at.

It also just happens to be in the Turia Gardens, right next to the City of Arts and Sciences. So it’s an easy way to have your kids blow off some more energy before heading back to your hotel.

My husband always tells me how much he loved this park as a child – so I’m sure your kids will have a fantastic time, too.

Go to Mestalla

For sports-loving families, visiting Valencia CF’s historic Mestalla stadium is an exciting experience.

It’s another one of the best things to do in Valencia with kids – especially since the parents will get to enjoy it as well.

You can book a tour directly from the Mestalla Stadium website. You can also get tickets to a match if you’d prefer that, rather than a tour!

But either way, this can be a super fun way to get up-close and personal with the Valencia stadium and to do some a bit more unique with your kids!

l’Albufera

One of the best things to see in Valencia - tours of the Albufera

Just outside the city, l’Albufera Natural Park offers a peaceful escape into nature. This is a freshwater lake that’s suuuuper close to the Mediterranean sea. It has played a HUGE role in the Valencian gastronomy and culture.

This makes it a great “cultural activity” to do with kids, while still being fun and exciting. They’ll get to go out in nature, hop on a boat, and enjoy spectacular views.

And if you come during the morning, it’s also the perfect place to get paella in Valencia!

So you can cross off a bunch of must-do activities all at once!

I think this is one of the best tours for kids, but if you want to read more, then here is my list of the best tours in Valencia

Valencia Family Holiday Tips

Now if you’re planning on visiting Valencia with kids, there are a few things you should know. So let’s look at some ways to help you save money, be prepared, and avoid any last-minute emergencies.

So these are my top tips for traveling to Valencia with children:

Valencia Tourist Card

The Valencia Tourist Card can be a smart investment for families. It includes free public transportation and entry to many museums and attractions. You can choose cards valid for 24, 48, or 72 hours, making it both convenient and cost-effective for family sightseeing.

Because if you’re traveling with kids, they probably don’t want to walk constantly. So this is a way to make the public transport much more affordable for you.

Important: Children under 10 can take the metro for free. The rule is two children per ticketholder. So up to four children for free if both parents are traveling.

This means that the tourist card is mostly for the parents, unless your children are a bit older. So make sure to look to see if that makes sense for you. Check out whether the tourist card is worth it for you

➡️ Grab the tourist card

Look for Kid’s Menus

Most restaurants will have kids menus as well, so that’s a great way to save some money. If you’re going for lunch, you can look at the “Menú del Dia” for adults, and the kid’s menu as well. These are usually set meals with less flexibility, but are much more affordable.

You might not see them right away, so sometimes you’ll have to ask “Teniu menú pels xiquets?

Everything is Kid Friendly

For the most part, the city is very kid-friendly. In fact, in Valencian culture it’s really common to include kids in things that may seem more for adults.

That’s why you’ll see kids with their parents at an outside bar or even at some parties. You’ll even see kids partying with their parents at a wedding!

So it’s common to see kids out at night. Which means as a traveler, you don’t need to worry about having them feel left out. You can absolutely order a drink at a restaurant while you’re with your kids, as that’s completely normal here.

Be Careful During Les Falles

First — make sure to check out this article on what to expect during Les Falles.

Because this is a super fun festival that I encourage everyone to see at some point in their life. But it’s true that sometimes it can be a little hectic.

Constant fireworks, enormous crowds, and lots of chaos going on

You’ll see lots of families taking their kids to firecracker stores, just to parade around the city and throw firecrackers everywhere. So this can be a very fun thing for kids to do in Valencia. But it also presents its own dangers.

Make sure to bring some earplugs for your children. And if they’re scared of crowds or noises, then you might not want to bring them during this time.

It can be an amazing time. But for some people with noise sensitivities or social anxiety, it can be the exact opposite. So I’ll leave that up to you!

Get Supplies at Supermarkets or Pharmacies

Need diapers, baby food, or any last-minute emergencies? You’ll be able to get these at basically any supermarket.

Go to “Consum” or “Mercadona” to look for these. If you can’t find the diapers, just ask someone “On estàn els bolquers?

And the pharmacies are easy to find, as there is always a neon green cross in front of the store. So you shouldn’t have any trouble. If you need any medicines, creams, or first-aid supplies — make sure to go there.
